MISSION AND APPROACH
Contribute to sustainable exploitation of natural resources using scientific information to develop professional environmental studies that will provide a reliable tool in decision making.
BACKGROUND
In 1988 a group of researchers and technicians who have collaborated in performing environmental impact assessment studies (EIA) [for its acronym in Spanish] formed the Environmental Impact Group (GIA) [for its acronym in Spanish] to meet with the demands of the different productive sectors. Because CIBNOR has the necessary infrastructure and resources, it is the main executor of EIA in the northwestern region of the country. Likewise, staff of GIA has participated in Ecological Regulation Studies (EOE) ([for its acronym in Spanish] since 1991, and in research it has performed scientific research and natural resource management studies since 1986.
Environmental studies have been performed for the public, private, and social sectors, for Federal Government offices, such as, CFE, for State ministries (PESCA, SEMARNAP), for business persons from the tourism industry, farmers, aquaculturists, for cooperatives and social groups.
The Assistant Coordinator's Office of Environmental Studies and Specialized Services has a Quality Management System certified in ISO 9001:2000 by the Instituto Mexicano de Normalización Certificación AC. Registration number: RSGC 501, "to perform studies in environmental impact (Environmental Impact Assessments, MIA for its acronym in Spanish), preventive reports, and technical and justifying studies (ETJ) for change of soil use in forest land starting from July2008".
