- General Information -

Physiological Biochemistry Laboratory

Physiological Biochemistry studies the molecular basis of the processes in living organisms.

Thus, the laboratory objective is focused directly in supporting research centered in molecular mechanisms that regulate and integrate metabolism in the following levels:

  1. Nutrition related to metabolism
  2. Lipid metabolism
  3. Protein metabolism
  4. Carbohydrate metabolism and intermediary metabolism
  5. Influence of O2 in metabolism
  6. Reproduction, development, and growth
  7. Environmental effects
  8. Stress

A relevant aspect of the analyses performed in this laboratory is that the majority of our methods use an adaptation of micro-plate (Elisa plates) which allows performing a great deal of determinations on the same sample due to the small amount of biological material used in each analysis (from 10 to 20 µl), which would not be possible with traditional techniques.  These determinations are done in a shorter period of time, thus increasing the analytical capacity of the laboratory to perform a complete biochemical profile (total carbohydrates, glycogen, total proteins, total lipids, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and lactate) of up to 50 samples per day obtaining previous raw extract.
