Research Lines and Projects

Strategic Line I: Organic Agriculture
Principal Investigator: Dr. Alejandra Nieto Garibay |
Contribute substantially to the organization and practice of organic agriculture in the state of Baja California Sur through a document containing the necessary information for strategic planning of organic agriculture. Assess, validate, and transfer products and useful management methods to counteract practical problems that organic producers confront, related with plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and conservation of the environment where cultivations are developed.

Strategic Line II: Plant Health
| Principal Investigator: Dr. Ramón Jaime Holguín Peña |
Integrate available information related to plant health in important agricultural cultivations for the State. Establish punctual and precise strategies on pest and disease management important to the region. Generate promotion documents, books, and handbooks directed to producers, technicians, consultants, authorities, students, etc. Form part of the working agenda of the State Government and education institutions of Northwest Mexico.

| Strategic Line III: Agrotechnology |
Principal Investigator: Dr. Bernardo Murillo Amador |
The strategic line of agrotechnology and energetic resources is focused on generating knowledge, developing human resources, supporting local economic and social development, and strengthening competitiveness through research, technology innovation, liaison and pertinent transfer that will allow to generate integrating products and management documents collaborating to sustainable development through excellent, competitive, and innovative processes.

| Strategic Line IV: Water, soil, climate |
| Principal Investigator: Dr. Enrique Troyo Diéguez |
Analyze water quality and availability of several sources applied to conventional and organic agriculture of Baja California Sur. Research priority aspects related to sustainable production on water dynamics, organic matter, fertility, salinity, and productivity of agroecosystems and key cultivation interactions with climate and dry and saline soils. Integrate and implement integral analysis methods of water resource and hydrological balance in the municipality of La Paz, B.C.S., in coordination with authorities and institutions related with water and soil resources. Analyze qualitatively and interpret quantitatively the
nutrient content and exogenous pollutants in water, soil, and substrates of
agriculture and livestock use.

| Strategic Line V: Biotechnology |
| Principal Investigator: Dr. Lilia Alcaraz Meléndez |
Conservation, development,
selection, and propagation of plant germplasm through the use of
biotechnological tools. Obtaining plants that produce important biopharmaceutical substances. Identifying and characterizing potential genes to mitigate stress in adverse conditions. Isolating characterizing, and identifying microorganisms with biotechnology potential.
Participation of compost, humic acids, and growth promoting bacteria with agriculture potential in stressing environments (soil, water, etc).
Microbial pathogenesis and biopesticide development.
