Project: Biotechnology and Exploitation of Genetic Resources

Principal Researcher: Dr. Lilia Alcaraz Meléndez

General Objectives

  • Conservation, development, selection, and propagation of plant germplasm by using biotechnological tools.
  • Propagation and development of plants with phytopharmaceutical and nutraceutical potential.

Specific Objectives

  • Propagation by tissue culture through organogenesis of selected Paulownia plants and 3 chiltepín ecotypes.
  • Adaptation of micropropagated plants in ex vitro conditions.
  • Transplant of micropropagated plants to field conditions quantifying survival
  • Experimenting ranks of drought and salinity stress in selected species of Paulownia.
  • Assessing mixed cultivation development using chile chiltepín plants
  • Quantifying capsaicin and capsaicinoid content of the different chile chiltepín studied.
  • Germplasm maintenance of selected Damiana by micropropagation.
  • Assessing antioxidant source potential of damiana, oregano, chiltepín, and paulownia, mainly.
