Strategic Line II: Developing culture technologies for mollusks moluscos
|
|
|
|
This strategic line comprises a large variety of
research, which in a general manner deals with topics related to
genetics,
larval culture and reproduction, pathology, and nutrition.
It is important to point
out that this research was performed in at least seven species of
mollusks
like, Lion-paw scallop, Catarina scallop, Chinese Pen shell, pleasure
oyster,
Japanese oyster, mussel, and Gulf oyster.
In the area of genetics, reproduction, and
larval culture, we have continued studying the aspects which represent
“bottlenecks” for larval and juvenile production. One of the interesting
studies in this area is searching into the way of obtaining optimal broodstock
of Japanese oyster for the environmental conditions of our country.
In the area of pathology, we contributed by
organizing a workshop on diagnostic techniques to detect pathogens in bivalve
mollusks; in nutrition, we mainly studied food selection.
