  • Support Services

 Soil Formation and Retention

Project: Humidity retention and physical-chemical characteristics of xerophilous scrubland soil
Xerophilous scrub Principal Researcher: Dr. Yolanda Maya

 The main goals are:

  • Consolidate the physical-chemical characteristics of the soils that sustain xerophilous scrub in Baja California Sur;

  • Scientifically sustain arguments on soil fragility of one of the ecosystems with the most anthropogenic pressure in the state;

  • Develop a method that will allow us to produce and apply live biological films to retain soil particles.

 Trophic Nets

Project: Use and management of trophic nets for wild and domestic fauna
  Principal Researcher: Dr. Javier Caraveo Pátiño

 Habitat Provision

Project: Ecophysiological processes linked to rearing and breeding areas for wild and domestic fauna in land ecosystems and for wild fauna in marine ecosystems
Map of BCS fauna Principal Researcher: Dr. Javier Caraveo Pátiño

The main goals are:

  • Investigate if fatty acids are involved in metabolic connections at different hierarchical levels of organization in two critical areas of the northwestern part of Mexico;

  • Explore if such connections are related with reproductive and food dynamics in different vertebrate species;

  • Determine if the habitats used as key sites for breeding and/or reproduction are sites where there is a flux of fatty acids by the local trophic net.

Project: Habitat maintenance and regeneration in the Upper Gulf and the Colorado River Delta area
  Principal Researcher: Dr. Alberto Aragón Noriega

  • Supply Services

 Food

Project: Agroecological indicators for agriculture and livestock sustainability
Solar cells
Principal Researcher: Dr. Enrique Troyo Diéguez

The main goals are:

  • Develop and propose a general method to establish a model based on agroecological indicators resulting from a modification performed to 32 indicators, adapting it to the conditions of Mexican dry land areas and to the preconception of environmental services;

  • Create and apply agroecological indicators to evaluate agriculture and livestock sustainability;

  • Value the establishments, farms and production units objectively and impartially to protect the available resources and foresee a safe and sustainable use of these resources in the benefit of today’s society and of future generations.

  • Regulation Services

 Erosion control

Project: Erosion control of xerophilous scrub using microbiotic crust
Eroded soil Principal Researcher: Dr. Yolanda Maya
Participant: Dr. Alejandro López Cortés

Main goals are:

  • Confirm that native cyanobacteria, which comes from biological crusts collected in the same localities, act positively in functional recovery and soil quality in eroded forests of dry land areas.

 Water Regulation

Project: Distribution pattern of water flow, aquifer recharge, and atmospheric controllers
Aquifer recharge Principal Researcher: Dr. Luis Brito Castillo

Main goals are:

  • Have an updated hydrometric and climatological data base;

  • Run a monitoring piezometric network in different selected hydrological basins;

  • Create a geographic information system of the selected hydrological basins.

Project: Water balance in basins and determining water mark to characterize utility and sustainability of agronomy ecosystems
  Principal Researcher: Dr. Enrique Troyo Diéguez
