Project: Population dynamics and community structure

Principal Researcher: Dr. José Alfredo Arreola Lizárraga

Knowledge of population dynamics and community structure of the species that live in coastal ecosystems contributes to understand ecological aspects, and it is also useful to indicate the environmental conditions of the ecosystems.

Scientific publications performed by the participants of this line of research have proposed conceptual models on crab and shrimp species living in semi-arid subtropical coastal lagoons that characterize Northwest Mexico, and which differ from those observed in the lagoons located in tropical latitudes.

Continuing these studies with species living in coastal waters and focusing on bioindicators will allow knowing the trends in the environmental condition of the ecosystems.
